David was born into a racing family. His grandfather, Carl
“Fuzzy” VanHorn, a member of the DIRT Motorsports Hall of
Fame, was active racing for some 4 decades. Carl had many
accomplishments in his racing career winning many features and
championships. Carl fondly remembers one feat in his career
running his first NASCAR race, the Purolator 500 at the Pocono
Speedway in 1975. Carl won a qualifier at the Nazareth Speedway
for this race to run the Walter Ballard #30 car. He was doing
quite well and winning the race until his motor expired. People
were astonished in how well he did in his first NASCAR race.
So racing was born into David’s blood. He spent a lot of
time at his grandfather’s race car garage at a young age. At
age 10, he started go-karting at the local tracks and he won his
first track championship his first year of racing. After winning
over 201 features and 10 Regional championships, David moved on
to the national and divisional series. He became the factory
driver for Bandit Karts in Winchester, Virginia and also was a
factory driver for Answer Karts in Temple, Pennsylvania. He has
three WKA Divisional fast time awards, five WKA National fast
time awards. In 1999 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, he won the
WKA Gold Cup National Championship in Limited Modified Heavy and
is a two time WKA Grand National Champion.

2000. David started racing in the DIRT Sportsman division at
Orange County Fair Speedway weekly and also went on the
traveling tour UFPO Dig Safely series. Each year he improved his
point standings. He was voted the Sportsman Rookie of the Year
in 2000 at Orange County Fair Speedway. 2002 was his best year
winning at the Syracuse Fairgrounds and setting fast time that
day. He also won the Pennsylvania Sportsman State Championship
at the Big Diamond Raceway. In his final year in the DIRT
Sportsman division, Finished 2nd in points at Orange
County Fair Speedway and 2nd in the DIRT Sportsman
UFPO Dig Safely Series, missing the championship by a few
points.
In 2003 David moved into the 358 Modified and Big Block
divisions. He was voted Rookie of the Year for the 358 Modified
and Big Block Division at Orange County Fair Speedway. The first
time this was accomplished at the speedway. Every year he
continued to improve in the points standings. In 2007 he won
Orange County Fair Speedway 358 Modified Championship and the
DIRTcar 358 Modified Regional Point Championship. 2008 was a
great year for David, he won the Orange County Fair Speedway Big
Block Championship by finishing consistent each week. He has
received the name “ Mr. Consistency “ at the track.
